We've been in Perth for 7 months now and are really enjoying everything here. I haven't been making much jewelry because of full time study, but I try to keep up. New orders are still coming in and I'm glad.

So besides making jewelry to de-stress, I have been growing more (and more) plants. We started off with 5 when we first moved into our apartment, and now there are 20. It feels really good to watch your plants grow big and healthy. This plant thing is becoming an addiction!

I checked the mail today and saw this notice from the Post Office asking me to pick a package up. I was surprised because I haven't bought anything online recently (what a shocker!). So I headed straight to the PO all excited and wondering what it was. The guy brought a large package and I was more surprised. After staring at it for a while, I realised it must have been Lis who bought me something. True enough, it was LIS! Hahaha! Yes, these sweetly scented soaps filled my new home with sweetness immediately. Thank you, Lis, for my wonderful soap. Thank you also for remembering that I love green tea. :D Lastly, thank you innerearthsoaps.etsy.com for making these wonderful soaps and packaging them up so pretty.

We have new packaging! Now all pieces are put in little ziploc bags to prevent tarnishing. The pieces are wrapped in gorgeous handmade tissue paper and a tiny bow is the finishing touch. We hope you like the new packaging as much as we like it.

We've finally settled in an apartment and things are getting routinized. School started 3 weeks ago and I'm getting the hang of studying again after 5 years of hiatus. All I can say is I love going to school again. I attempted to make some new pieces over this weekend, and you should be seeing them sometime soon - when I get my light tent set up. Most importantly, my camera is back and I am taking pictures again. Oh how I missed taking pictures. Here are some pictures I took the past week. Enjoy these and check back often for more blog posts and pictures. :)

We are happy to announce that starrydesigns.com is now open and fully functional. You will be delighted to see that we have changed various things on the site.

The most significant change is we are now operating from Australia. Hooray for jewelry from Down Under.

The second most significant change is that we now have flat rate shipping regardless of how much you order. This is great for those who have been eyeing several items but were worried about shipping. Be sure to check out competitive rates for registered mail. More shipping information can be found here.

Another significant change would be our packaging. Our jewelry will be wrapped in pretty mulberry paper and shipped flat in a bubble mailer. They will also be in ziploc bags to prevent the jewelry from tarnishing.

The last leg

We're into our last couple of days in Bend. We have gotten rid of most of our stuff - most of them to friends, the rest to thrift stores. Even though it is just random stuff in the apartment, I am kinda emotionally attached to them. Wish we could send them all over to Perth.

Definitely having a lot of mixed feelings this week. Justin and I are both happy we're starting a new life together, but at the same time we're sad to leave everything here. The strongest emotion I am feeling right now is the guilt of taking Justin away from his wonderful friends. So many people turned up last night and I was teary eyed a couple of times when I saw him with his friends. I just have to keep reminding myself that this is for the better.

The next couple of days will be a lot of cleaning and meeting up with close friends. We've rented a car and booked a motel room for our last day/night here. On the last day, we will just be chilling and resting. And then there will be some sobbing and crying on the plane. Ha! Definitely looking forward to that... NOT!

The feedback I received did ruin a couple of days for me and worse still, it was over something I have no control over. I guess it is because I am a human being for my own business, not just someone working for a huge corporation that they don't have a share in. Ah well... I hope the rest of the year will be better.

I don't know why, but it must be accumulated happiness and I finally decided to blog about it today.

From the day I got here, Justin has been nothing but sweet (of course he has always been sweet, and I have learnt to appreciate it better now). All the small things he does never fails to amaze me. Here is what gives me a warm fuzzy feeling:

A jug of water was in the fridge when I got here. Moisturizer was in the bathroom. He didn't dare get all my toiletries though, because the last time he did, I got on to him because I didn't like the fragrance on those. :p
He bought a heating pad because he knows my feet gets really cold at night
He prepares the de-humidifier everyday and make sure it is in the room every night (without fail) because my nose isn't used to the dryness.
He shovels a small passageway to and around the car so I wouldn't have to step into foot deep snow.
When I was sick and laying in bed a lot, he brought me medicine and airborne everyday. He tended to my every request when I said "Justin do this, Justin do that".
He still opens the car door for me each time.
He prepares the bed for me every night - heating pad in the feet spot, 3 layers of blanket, warms up my side and then calls me to bed.

If there were a next life, I would want to grow up with him, and grow old with him... :)

Justin surprised me with a present last night - pouches from Victoria's Secret! I LOVE pouches. The more the merrier! This set will be my favorite from now on. The largest is big and roomy and I can probably fit shampoo and soap bottles in there. The medium one I am gonna use for makeup and stuff. The smallest will be for miscellaneous stuff in my purse. Now I'm all organized! Yay!

I will be getting my 2nd present tonight. I wonder what it is.... :D

I am making an effort to take at least a picture a day, and it is going very well so far. Today we headed to Macy's for the one day sale. There was a bunch of stuff on sale, just not stuff I like/want/need. So I rewarded myself with a nice Mexican lunch. Mexican food is something I miss oh-so-much. When I am enjoying my Mexican meal... stay away... :p

A Day of walking around and lotsa eating

Today I woke up all energized and ready to re-explore the place. Even though I have only been gone for one year, there has been many changes. My favorite WaMu branch changed their layout, and do did Banana Republic, American Eagle, and Victoria's Secrets. There were also a bunch of new buildings up in downtown and SW side of town. Most were 4 stories high, which is the maximum they are allowed (either 4 or 6).

I usually ask for to go boxes, but didn't need any today. I finished my breakfast AND dinner. That includes corn beef hash (see below) and a big burger with a ton of fries. Yum!

I have been taking pictures non stop, because I want to make sure I capture every one of the places that I frequent here. I only wish I started 2 summers ago, then I would have both summer and winter shots. Well I guess this would give me an excuse to come back another summer. I'm gonna miss this place like crazy.

So I arrived in Bend yesterday. Jetlag was definitely evident. As soon as I arrived, I wanted to head to McGrath's Fish House right away. I had my usual dose of Hazelnut Sole and then headed straight home. I slept from 2 to 6pm, 7.30 to 12am, and 2am to 7.30am. I believe that cured my jetlag. :D

I called in to suspend my mobile phone line because I will be away for slightly more than a month. After it was suspended, I attempted to explain to customer service the problem with viewing my bill online.

Cindy: I am unable to view my bill online (explains steps).
M1: I'm sorry, Ma'am. You are unable to view because I have suspended your line.
Cindy: No I tried this before I called you and there was this error.
M1: There shouldn't be a problem, Ma'am.
Cindy: There is a problem.
M1: It is because your line is suspended, Ma'am.
Cindy: I know that. I tried it earlier this year but gave up because it didn't work. And just now I called your BEFORE I suspend the line and it already didn't work.
M1: Ma'am, there shouldn't be any problem, Ma'am.
Cindy: But there is a problem. I tried it earlier and it didn't work.
M1: There shouldn't be any problem, Ma'am.
Cindy: Okay nevermind.

I wasn't mad, but it was rather amusing. I guess I will deal with not being able to view my bill online.

It was Joyce's 21st birthday today. My little baby cousin is all grown up now. I'm kinda tearing thinking about it. :p Her sisters, aunt, friends and me had a nice buffet dinner at Carousel at Royal Plaza on Scotts. It's one of my favorite buffet places (after Melt at Mandarin Oriental). The food was really good and we ate SOOOO much. I haven't eaten this much in a long time. I hope little Joycey had fun!

A visit to the farms

Today was a public holiday (Hari Raya Haji) and dad wanted to spend a day away from urban life. We headed down to Sungei Tengah and visited various farms. Weather was perfect and we walked and walked without feeling tired at all. You can check out more pictures here.

Because of Justin, I have been obsessed with little birdies for the past year. I swear we have to get a bird one day. Here are some pictures of the birdies I saw today. Don't know what breed they are, but they sure are pretty. :) I am also loving my new camera. :D

We went to Margarita's (Dempsy) for lunch today and enjoyed it. It's crazy how time flies. I worked there as a server 8 years ago when I was a teenager. 8 years later, I'm sitting here enjoying the food. It's still as good as ever and Andy has introduced various additions to the menu. My favorite is still the garlic mushrooms. Yummy!

Connie and I met up for some window shopping in Orchard Road today. I took many goofy pictures of Connie and she isn't too pleased. :p So I won't be posting any here. But for the curious, here is what Orchard Road looks like during Christmas.

The whole street and buildings are covered with Christmas lights. I have only two shot to share because being the bad photographer I am, most of them are not pretty enough to be seen. I will try to head down again one of these days to take more pics. ;)

I bought new sheets today. I really liked the floral designs at first, but now I think it is too much for my liking. It might be too girly for Justin too. Hmmm... What do you think?

There is this one by Margaret Muir that I really like. It is mostly white with huge snowflake-like grey and gold embroidery right in the middle of the quilt cover. It's definitely simpler in terms of design and has a cleaner look. I might exchange this for that. Let me think about it for a couple of days. ;)

Lis and I were out for errands yesterday when she suddenly said: Should we buy 4D?

If you know Lis well, you should be aware that Lis is an extremely lucky person and people have benefited from it. So when she suggested we buy 4D, I jumped at the opportunity immediately. Of course, it wasn't a smooth experience as it was our first time in the line.

Lis: Quick pick, please.
Teller: 4D or Toto?
Lis: Eh... 4D...
Teller: How much?
Lis: Eh... $2? 2 numbers please!

I mentioned the incident to my dad and he said: Wow. You make the teller talk so much just to earn $4 from you. Now I recall why the teller was staring at us in disgust. The conversation with us was probably the longest she had all day.

So apparantly, we were supposed to say "4D quick pick, 2 numbers, $2" and the teller would hand us our ticket without having to say a word. Well, that is pure laziness. Surely she needs some interaction. :p

Oh. And we didn't win anything. Buck up, Lis! Give me a good farewell present! I need it! :p

We're on our way to Perth

Our visas have been finalized, so I can safely announce it now. Justin and I are headed to Perth, Australia for my postgrad studies. We can finally take the next step of our lives together. Perth is a beautiful place and we are very excited that we will be living there.

I am headed to Oregon next month to help Justin with all our furniture and belongings. We will officially leave Oregon in January and move on the Perth in February.

Computer issues

I haven't been online much because of computer issues. My laptop crashes whenever I run a flash application too long or whenever I try to install major software. After some diagnosis, Dell recommended I format my laptop to factory settings, which I did. However, my laptop is still crashing! Now they say they will send someone to change the motherboard tomorrow. I am definitely looking forward to that. 2 weeks of computer issues is just draining me.

Meanwhile, I will spend the rest of today staring at the laptop and installing important software. -_-

I am still able to access emails (thank you gmail) and process orders. :)

Mmm new gadget

I had been eyeing a new camera since early this year. After much contemplation, I have decided on the Ixus 870 IS (SD880 as known in the US). The older Ixus 860 had plenty good reviews, but I didn't quite like the dial and how it worked. I'm glad I waited! The Ixus 870 possesses the new DIGIC 4 processor for faster image processing and has a perfect easy to use dial.

I am and always will be a Canon supporter. My first digital camera was the Ixus v2 (2002), and second was the Ixus 500 (2004). The Ixus' gorgeous looks never fails to buy me over. They have all served me very well too. I was hoping the Ixus 500 would break and give me the perfect excuse to get a new camera. After 4 long years, I could no longer wait.

Lis (simpleartsplanet.com) was commenting today that I hardly blog. I said to her: Well there is nothing exciting going on in my life!!!

That is true, I am not lying. My life has been pretty boring. I have been shopping around for a school and also reading up on a lot of immigration stuff (you will find out more end of this year when everything is confirmed). All these are not interesting to people who don't know me. Lis, however, mentioned that sometimes it is these uninteresting bits that others find interesting. So yes, I will try to blog more, Lis! :p

Today Lis and I met up to celebrate her birthday (tomorrow!!!). Happy Birthday in advance, Lis! We had lunch at Cedele and then proceeded to Takashimaya for some shopping. Lis did A LOT of shopping. That I will leave for her to comment on her own blog, ie if she wants you to know how much she spent. :p When Lis started having cramps in her feet, she decided she needed a break and some ice cream. I want my Shin Tzu! I have been contemplating a Shin Tzu since she came out last week. And when I finally decided to get it, my order got declined! Boo hoo! I think Lis (Simple Arts Planet) has got something up her sleeves though. She says she has been planning something for months? What is she planning? Why did she decline my order!?!?!

Okay JOKES ASIDE! Lis is not evil. She has her reasons for rejecting my order, and I will only find out at the end of this month. I think YOU should get a Shin Tzu though, because she is just so adorable! This is by far my favorite from Simple Arts Planet. GET ONE NOW!

Lace enhances the bodice of a dress with a full satin skirt. The tulle-trimmed waist is beaded with faux pearls and white and clear beads for beautiful embellishment.

So my dress arrived today! Yippee! I'm in love with it, and it is gorgeous!

However, it might be a little too formal for my cousin's church wedding. And the dress does not look as good on me as compared to the model. This blows. I have a perfect dress but I cannot wear it to the wedding. Worst of all, I have to spend more money to get another dress that is less formal. :(

I shall try to keep myself distracted by preparing for the new products launch on September 1. Toodles!

Brief Outage on Site on July 11

Out of curiosity, I actually bookmarked this site last month. Of course, I knew it was impossible for them to be real because there is no way LV or Gucci would have dealers represent their products. Then just last week, I decided to check out the site again. This time, the website was suspended. Something was definitely fishy.

Here is an except from their "About Us" page:

I discovered Tre Anelli a couple of months back and wanted to be selfish and not tell anyone about her. There were some pieces that I was looking at and really wanted, but I didn't want others to get hold of them first. Today, I saw a stunning piece and felt that I have to share it with everyone else. I can no longer keep mum about this talent.

I was browsing Coveiter after she wrote to let me know she has featured me on her Mother's Day Gift Guide (thanks again!). I chanced upon her Mother's Day Giveaway and fell in love with the works of one of them. I have been looking around for aprons for a couple of months now and I think I found the best yet. A bigger project

Last week I embarked on a bigger project than usual. I am such a pearl lover and was dying to create a whole necklace with pearls. Thus, I came up with this design and finally finished it 2 hours later. This is definitely a big accomplishment for me as I can never spend more than an hour on one project.
